| Dear Calgary Shaw UCP Members, This is my second letter to you. You have already received my Letter of Introduction and Survey, which was dropped off at your door (Click Here). My team and I are working hard, and I am on a mission to knock on every single door in Calgary Shaw, and not just the members. I want to express my sincere thanks to those of you who have shared your concerns with me at your doorstep, on the phone, by email, or through my website. Your comments are of vital importance to me and have helped to identify the priorities and concerns of our community. It was my campaign that first informed you about the nomination because of the early departure of our MLA. Since then, my team and I have been working tirelessly to connect with residents and listen to their concerns. How a candidate operates their campaign is exactly how they will serve their constituents. Here are a few points to ponder. |
- I have proven with my first letter to you that I understand you are the employer. I felt it was important to let you know as much about me as possible before you hire me. That is why the information came across like a resume.
- I have assembled a campaign team that includes several key organizers who worked alongside Premier Danielle Smith, former Prime Minister Stephen Harper, former Premier Mike Harris, former Premier Ralph Klein, Minister Tanya Fir, Deputy Speaker Tom Kmiec, Councillor Mike Jamieson, and many others. Defeating the NDP will require more than photos at events. It will require a team with proven experience winning provincial elections and a candidate who can effectively represent Calgary Shaw.
- I have also demonstrated, through my comprehensive survey conducted by phone, email, door-to-door outreach, literature drops, and online engagement that I listen. I am also the only candidate who lives in the south. The other candidate lives downtown. My family and I, will actually be active in the area I represent.
- I pledge to you to serve my full term, and not seek election to another level of government, forcing a by-election and costing taxpayers almost a million dollars. My word matters. My yes is yes, and my no is no. I will never put my interests ahead of you.
Thank you for your input and for participating in the Calgary Shaw survey. The top six priorities identified through responses collected by email, telephone, door-to-door conversations, social media, regular mail, and online submissions are shown in the graph below.
| Some solutions to your concerns are listed below. I am continuing to listen via my survey at www.TheBigListen.ca Please go to my website for a full policy platform. AFFORDABILITY People are struggling to pay their bills, buy groceries and have a roof over their head. Housing costs have been rising, in part because the population has also been increasing putting a strain on services and increasing taxes. We need manageable growth, control over our immigration, and housing developments to ensure the services are budgeted for without the need for sudden tax increases. We need to continue to remove barriers for local farmers and producers to access local markets. We need our utility providers reinvesting in our networks, but also focusedon reducing the constant increase of service fees. We need to ensure our vulnerable friends and neighbours are getting the support and benefits they need. We need insurance companies provide the level of service we expect, and a price we can afford. We need to ensure your tax dollars are spent responsibly, transparently, and there is a benefit to Alberta. PIPELINES We need to elect someone who understands Calgary’s largest employer. As an Oil & Gas professional, I understand the industry, and how more market access will further unleash Alberta’s potential. We need more than just an MOU, we need action. Meaningful conversations are required to work towards and remove barriers. Those conversations need to continue, but we need firm timelines and accountability. Companies want to invest in Alberta, and we need governments and stakeholders at all levels, support to get these projects built. ABANDONMENT OF CONSTITUENTS As a small business owner, I have commitments to my clients and business partners. Before I even decided to run, I worked with them, developed a plan, and scaled back my workload. When I make a commitment, I honour it. I have been campaigning UNPAID, and not collecting a paycheque while running in this nomination. I think it is wrong to have taxpayers pay for anyone to campaign. Your voice matters, and you speak with your vote. I will honour your trust in me, and pledge to serve my full elected term, not abandon my constituents, and force a costly by-election. EDUCATION AND HEALTHCARE These are two priorities that are, and will always be a focal point. While progress has been made, there is still significant work to do. Meaningful change takes time, but we must continue moving forward. We need the front-line workers to feel respected, empowered and listend to. They need to ensure they play a significant role in helping to further transform our front-line services. We need to reduce classroom sizes, address complexity issues and respect parental rights in education. SEPARATION / UNITY Many folks are feeling frustrated and anxious about the referendum questions. It can be a very emotional issue. We need to ensure we have civility and respect in these conversations, but there also needs to be some meaningful action taken. Albertans want to continue to work hard and provide for their family. Everyone I speak with wants to make Alberta a better place and believes our home is worth fighting for. Let’s take the time to listen to one another and truly understand the concerns we have. We need to remain calm, and try to keep egos and emotion out of the conversation. Let’s talk about facts, root causes and then solutions. We can work together in a positive way to strengthen Alberta. I am an optimist and confident that Alberta and Canada can focus on areas of common ground, find solutions, and take real action.
